Now that he was doing well, Damian set his sights on something bigger. He put Adonis in his sights and tried to kill him. That anger was about a lot more than not being able to succeed like he did. It went all the way back to their hard times in the past and how Adonis left Damian after he was locked up. Instead of talking to him about it, he tried to put it out of his mind and act like it never happened. All of those feelings and memories came flooding back when Damian came back. This may have clouded Adonis’s judgment and affected his relationship with his family. Since he was becoming a threat, it was clear that the only way to stop him was to fight him, which was going to happen no matter what. After a long boxing career, he was already bruised and beat up. Coming out of retirement to train for one more tough match was a challenge, but it was one he hadn’t faced before. As intense as the drama between them was, so were their training montages.
One could say that Creed III was all about the fight between Adonis and Damian and everything else was just filler. The backstory between the two characters felt rushed and only gave a taste. The movie would have been better off if they had been fleshed out a bit more. Still, the regret, anger, and hostility that followed felt real. Everything else, besides how pretty they were, didn’t matter much unless it moved the Adonis/Damian story along, which was fine. There were good moments between everyone else, but the best one was between Adonis and his mother Mary-Anne (Phylicia Rashad), who was also part of his and Damian’s past. At the end of the day, it was all about the boxing, and that’s why the movie works. Jordan’s different way of doing things gives those boxing scenes a cinematic feel. The anime influence makes the boxers look like they are bigger than life in the ring.
At the end of the day, the best thing about Creed III was the acting. Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors had great chemistry as Adonis and Damian, and it was the same for the rest of the cast. As was already said, the first actor gives his best performance as Creed because he goes deeper into the character. Pain, guilt, and regret were there, and they made a cloud over him that was easy to see. So, his fight with Damian meant even more, and it showed. This gave him even more drive. Majors, on the other hand, was a force as Damian. He used a lot of energy to hide his pain. He did get some chances to let loose and steal scenes, which showed how versatile he was, but there could have been more.
