With all the ghosts, demons, and masked serial killers that hang out at camps, it’s surprising that anyone still goes there. She Came from the Woods, by Erik Bloomquist, will be shown in some theaters on February 10, 2023. The characters are getting ready to leave Camp Briarbrook for the summer. Nearly out of trouble, they make the terrible choice to take part in a ritual to bring back an old evil. As expected, this leads to chaos, murder, and a group of evil kids who laugh while they do it.
She Came from the Woods is another horror movie that takes place in 1987 and tries to cash in on the popularity of horror movies set in the 1980s. But even though the clothes and hairstyles are from that time, the dialogue sounds very modern, which sometimes takes away from the setting. The movie also makes references to other horror movies, which sometimes hurts it by reminding people that there are better movies in the same style.
With all of this in mind, the movie has a wide range of characters who are different in how much we like them. Most of the characters are typical stereotypes, like the jock, the slacker, the guy who is full of toxic masculinity, etc. She Came from the Woods has a good cast, including Cara Buono (The Sopranos, Stranger Things), Clare Foley (Sinister 2012, Do No Harm series), Spencer List (Fringe, The Fosters), and William Sadler (Die Hard 2, Demon Knight 1995).
