“Quicksand,” directed by Andres Beltran and written by Matt Pitts, revolves around a couple on the brink of divorce, who venture to South America. The film opens with a thrilling prologue in the rainforest, hinting at the suspense to come. However, the subsequent scenes suffer from excessive fast cutting and an overbearing score, diluting the impact. Carolina Gaitán and Allan Hawco’s performances as the estranged couple show promise, but the script fails to provide the necessary depth to fully immerse the audience in their struggles. As they find themselves trapped in the rainforest, the film explores the idea of reconciliation amidst danger, but the execution falls short of leaving a lasting impression. “Quicksand” needed more refined direction and a stronger screenplay to truly captivate.
