In “It Lives Inside,” director Bishal Dutta’s feature debut, a supernatural horror thriller unfolds. The story revolves around Sam, an Indian-American teenager struggling with her heritage, who accidentally releases a demon that preys on her former best friend’s loneliness. Sam must reconnect with her Indian roots to confront this sinister entity. The film’s premise shows promise but ultimately falls short, feeling derivative and playing it safe. Nevertheless, “It Lives Inside” remains a watchable and somewhat entertaining movie, largely due to Suri’s strong performance as Sam. Bajwa and Gabriel provide emotionally rich supporting roles, and Dutta effectively builds a creepy atmosphere filled with tension. The film leans heavily on jump scares, some of which are ineffective. While it commendably represents Indian culture in a horror context, it doesn’t achieve the intended level of terror.
