“Freelance” barely qualifies as a movie, offering a meager plot and recognizable faces without the substance needed to captivate audiences. Despite a substantial $40 million budget, the film feels like a half-hearted attempt to secure a spot on VOD and in theaters. Pierre Morel’s direction lacks the vigor seen in his earlier works, reducing the film to a forgettable attempt at action-comedy.
John Cena assumes the role of Mason Pettits, a former special ops soldier, joining forces with journalist Claire Wellington (Brie) in the fictional country of Paldonia. However, the film lacks essential elements—no romance, no comedy, and certainly no noteworthy action. Attempts to infuse life into the narrative fall flat due to the film’s lack of artistry. Even the usually charismatic Cena and Brie fail to salvage “Freelance,” leaving it devoid of the sparks that define a successful cinematic experience. Visit o2tvseries for more!
