The romantic comedy has changed a lot in the last 20 years. The genre can’t seem to catch a break. Uninterested studios keep making derivatives that aren’t very good, and disappointed fans keep talking about it too much. The news has been very clear: the romantic comedy is dead! It never mattered about the romantic comedy! Sometimes a movie gives me a little hope for the future of the genre, but most of the recent attempts to save one of the most popular types of comfort food in movies have been forgettable.
Because of this, I went to Your Place or Mine with some skepticism and some frustration. On paper, the project looks like it could work: Debbie and Peter, who are played by Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, will fall in love over the course of two hours. Both of them have been performing for a long time and have built up enough good will for us to feel nostalgic about them. Aline Brosh McKenna is both a screenwriter and a director. She wrote the scripts for the movies 27 Dresses and The Devil Wears Prada. Supporting roles are given to a group of actors who are all very nice. But even a movie that seems to have a lot going for it can be empty. Visit o2tvseries to stream more movies.
